Experience

Experiences are what a developer creates (backend — UI — UX) . These can only happen in one place, and is the human brain.

And the worst part is most of this we can’t see, are hidden from us. But we can consider the interaction over human mind across experiences, mental abilities that make apps possible. There are four principal mental abilities that make this possible: modeling, focus, imagination and empathy.

Modeling

Reality is amazingly complex. The only way out minds are able to get by at all is by simplifying reality so that we can make some sense of it. Our minds will deal not with reality, but models. Modeling takes place below out awareness, consciousness is an illusion that out internal experiences are reality.

Reality is full of aspects that aren’t at all part of our day-to-day modeling. Some tiny thing are everywhere around us, but generally not part of our mental models at all, because mostly, we don’t need or want to know about them. A lot of things fells natural to us until we think about them. His unreality doesn’t become apparent until we stop and consciously think about it, and this is a clue to how the brain models things.
Our conscious mind never sees cartoon’s lines, do less work to understand them. Our brains do amount of work to boil down that complexity of reality into simpler mental models that can be easily stored. It is also the case for human relationships, risk and reward evaluation, and decision making.

We care a lot about these mental models because apps have simple rules that we can easily absorb and manipulate; because so much of the complexity has been stripped away.

The important thing to understand is that everything we experience and thing about is a model, not reality. Reality is beyond our understanding and comprehension. As a designer, if you can understand and control how that illusion is formed in your user’s mind, you will create experiences that feel as real.

Focus

Focus is attention selectively, ignoring some things and devoting more mental power to others. Like out ability to pay attention to a single conversation when a roomful of people are all talking at once.

We need to focus on create experience enough that it hold the user as long and intensely as possible. When something captures out complete attention and imagination as intense as possible we enter in a mental state. The rest of the world seems to fall away and we have no intrusive thoughts. All we are thinking about is what we are doing and we completely lose track of time. This state pays for designers to make a careful study of flow state to have: Clear goals, No distractions (makes the mind wander), Direct feedback (focus on our task), Continuously challenging. The user need to have challenges. Not too easy to be bored, not too hard to feel sick.

We must manage to stay in the narrow margin of challenge that lies between boredom and frustration, and keep he away from new activities. Neither boredom or anxiety are positive experiences. So the motivation to enjoy himself again will push him to get back into the flow channel, involve new challenges, demands great skills at a time, increase the level of complexity.

The cycle of “tense and release” come up again and again in design. Too much tension and we wear out. Too much relaxation we grow bored.

Does my app have clear goals?

Are goals that the user wants?

They have stay focus on goals? How can we reduced distractions?

My app provide a changes, challenges, steady states not-too-easy, not-too-hard? taking user’s skills may be gradually improving.

Users will be in flow when use the app and we need to watch them closely, they won’t stay there forever. You must watch for that crucial moment, the event that moves them out of the flow channel so you can figure out how or make sure that event doesn’t happen in your next prototype of the app.

Empathy

The ability to understand and feel their feelings. When we see someone who is happy, we can feel their joy as if it is our own. When we see someone who is sad, we can fell their pain.

Our empathy can be cast from one person to another in the blink of an eye. Next time you watch television, pay attention, moment to moment, about where your empathy is going and why it is going there.

As App designers, we still make use of empathy about problem solving.

Imagination

We need to form a mental image. What looks like?

Just made up a bunch of these details so what you could more easily think about what We mean. Reformulate your imaginary image to fit what you have. The users will be able to fill the rest of details. The art comes in knowing what you should show the player and what you should leave to their imagination.

The fact that our brains only deal in simplified models of reality means that we can manipulate these models effortlessly, sometimes into situations that wouldn’t be possible in reality.

Imagination has two crucial functions: the first is communication (storytelling) and the second is problem solving
